There’s no way around it: 2024 was the year generative AI truly hit prime time and changed the game in the e-discovery industry. At Relativity, after generative AI became a household term about two years ago, we embraced it in full force—and thoughtfully.
A lot of that work came to fruition as Relativity aiR: a portfolio of generative AI-powered solutions that ensure our community will thrive in a new era of AI technology. We put the pedal to the metal, moving fast to deliver two exceptional products for general availability this year—aiR for Review and aiR for Privilege—all while using our AI Principles to balance rapid innovation with a deep commitment to responsible development.
Our first generative AI offerings prioritized the industry’s core use cases to drive impact right away, and we rigorously tested ever-advancing large language models on real matter data (no, not Enron) to ensure aiR’s solutions were purpose-built and expertly designed for scalable document review.
But by no means did we achieve this alone. We did it with you. By providing full transparency into each of aiR’s decisions, thoughtfully integrating with Azure OpenAI to ensure your data is safeguarded within the RelativityOne boundary, and partnering with dozens of organizations through our limited general availability (LGA) programs to build aiR for Review and aiR for Privilege from the ground up, we worked tirelessly to dispel the notion that AI is a black box while creating solutions that work the way you need them to. We recognize that developing exceptional generative AI offerings is an exciting but formidable ambition, and one that we have and will continue to pursue in conjunction with our community.
As 2024 draws to a close, we’d like to take a look back and give you an overview of everything generative AI that we’ve brought to market this year. Consider this your guide to the Relativity aiR journey, including where we’ve been, where we are today, and where we’re headed next.
Transformative Generative AI Products, Designed and Delivered
This year, Relativity released two powerful generative AI solutions that transform the way you review your data. aiR for Review was made generally available this past September, to help RelativityOne’s global customer base conduct document review faster and more accurately than ever before. With customers often seeing >95 percent recall and >70 percent precision, alongside rapid analyses that can review one million documents within just 18 days, the impact and savings have been staggering.
We quickly followed up that release with aiR for Privilege’s general availability launch in November, to help partners and customers further incorporate generative AI into their first-pass review workflows by accelerating privilege review and log creation. aiR for Privilege analyzes thousands of documents per hour while achieving >99 percent recall—so users gain efficiency while reducing risk with technology that outperforms traditional methods. Since using aiR for Privilege, organizations have cut privilege review time in half, with some reporting time savings of up to 80 percent.
Both launches were heavily supported by close collaboration with our community through our LGA programs, which invited first users to influence aiR’s capabilities. For example, aiR for Privilege’s early adopters provided input on how the solution could more easily store information on privilege-conferring individuals to better support multiple projects for the same end client. This feedback was prioritized and applied to the solution’s full release.
We also established a comprehensive user group program that met regularly throughout the year, provided suggestions on new features, and discussed topics related to generative AI skill development. Thirty-six partners and customers connected monthly over a course of eight months to share their perspectives and learn from each other’s experiences. These conversations drove widespread engagement and uncovered valuable insights that will help organizations use generative AI more effectively.
From Launch to Impact: Putting aiR in Your Hands
Empowering you with generative AI goes beyond the launch of a solution. We know that embracing transformative technology can be a journey, and Relativity is here for you every step of the way. In addition to running our LGA programs and user groups, we also spent this past year conducting informational sessions, trainings, and enablement activities with customers all around the world.
At Relativity Fest, Relativians helped partners and customers get their hands on aiR, leading learning labs that guided users through its workflows. Numerous product-focused sessions were supported by five different aiR for Review on-site workshops and even more virtual workshops were held for those who couldn’t attend the live event. Thanks to these efforts, we’ve had over 1,000 users attend in-depth, hands-on training sessions for aiR for Review since its launch in September.
And while Relativity Fest certainly provided an opportunity for organizations to get familiar with aiR, it was only one piece of a momentous year. Our AI Advantage webinar series discussed thought provoking generative AI topics for all levels of experience. They were accompanied by our Ask the Expert webinars, in which expert presenters share their knowledge with the intention of making AI as accessible as possible.
We’re also ensuring our international community is ready to embrace generative AI. We’ve held aiR for Review user group workshops in Melbourne, Sydney, Frankfurt, and London and further satisfied the global community’s appetite to learn more with a world tour of AI roadshows in Zurich, London, and Frankfurt. Additional international generative AI events are already in the works for next year.
Finally, we recognize that once you have access to aiR for Review and aiR for Privilege, your real-life experience with it matters more than anything else. The Relativity team is here to make your AI learning curve, which may initially seem daunting, feel powerful instead. When a partner or customer gets started with aiR for Review and aiR for Privilege, we walk through multiple onboarding sessions to get teams up to speed and comfortable using the products as quickly as possible. Additionally, live project assistance from our enablement team tailors support to your individual organization’s needs so you can drive impact right away.
Looking Ahead to 2025
While 2024 set a high bar, we plan to reach even greater heights in the coming year, supported by our $160 million annual investment in research and development.
With the new ability to collect AI-generated conversational data directly from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise directly in RelativityOne, you’re able to easily review data from one of the world’s fastest growing AI platforms. Next up we’ll be adding support to collect from Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. We'll also be introducing AI Help, an upcoming generative AI-powered chatbot that’ll transform how you find answers to product questions within the platform. Furthermore, we’re extending these chat features into our search capabilities so you can easily sort through both documentation and matter data via simple, natural language questions.
Plus, more aiR exciting solutions are on the horizon. aiR for Review will soon be available in RelativityOne Government to support the public sector’s use of the solution in FedRAMP environments. And building on our collaborative, 30+ customer Advance Access program from this year, aiR for Case Strategy will launch in 2025. With it, you can use generative AI to move seamlessly from document review into crafting case narratives and preparing for depositions and trial. Its powerful technology works to create case summaries, witness summaries, deposition outlines, and case timelines to provide users with intuitive visualizations of the essential facts—making crafting case strategy easier than ever.
The introduction of aiR was an enormous milestone for Relativity and our community, but this is just the beginning. With two aiR solutions launched and more coming your way, it’s time to close the door on 2024 and head into 2025 with the wind at your heels. Take a breath and join us.
